Top 5 Reasons I Cleanse (and why you should join me).

Many of you know I do a month long cleanse every year coupled with a few shorter (tho arguably more intense) cleanses over the course of the year. 

There are a ton of reasons why, One being I feel awesome after, but until you try if you won’t know. If you’ve never done a cleanse before why start today? Because…

1. The air…
is crap. I live in downtown Los Angeles (DTLA) I know that the air I breath is compromised, I can see the air some days. I know that I need to cleanse in order to keep on top of the high level of pollutants in the air that seep into my body.

Regardless of where you live the air is compromised. You can see there are very few areas that are low in the air pollution scale and post nuclear meltdown I imagine this is worse. 
2. Food Quality

Our food isn’t what it once was. Through soil depletion our food, from veggies to grains to meat, isn’t as nutrient rich as it used to be. If you have your own garden and compost I take this point partially back. Our water is contaminated as is the air. Odds are you aren’t 100% ‘off the food grid’.

The Organic Consumers Association cites several other studies with similar findings: A Kushi Institute analysis of nutrient data from 1975 to 1997 found that average calcium levels in 12 fresh vegetables dropped 27 percent; iron levels 37 percent; vitamin A levels 21 percent, and vitamin C levels 30 percent. A similar study of British nutrient data from 1930 to 1980, published in the British Food Journal,found that in 20 vegetables the average calcium content had declined 19 percent; iron 22 percent; and potassium 14 percent. Yet another study concluded that one would have to eat eight oranges today to derive the same amount of Vitamin A as our grandparents would have gotten from one.

So even if you’re eating well foods that are naturally detoxing have lost their potency. 

3. Reset the body

All disease thrives in an acidic environment. Yes you can eat a high alkaline diet and if you do this 24/7 I congratulate you! You get to skip this one. For the rest of us bringing the body out of an acidic state and into an alkaline state helps to kill off any brewing diseases. I’m not saying this can cure cancer, I’m not not saying it can prevent cancer… However, eating an alkaline diet does reduce inflammation in the body, which is linked to everything from migraines to arthritis to heart disease to PMS you get the idea. Eliminating acidic foods like sugar, gluten, booze and caffeine will give your body the chance to cleanse deeper seated toxins instead of constantly fighting to eliminate the ones your ingesting right now -and failing.

You get to be selfish! You will find yourself going thru detox symptoms. That sounds like a drag, and it is, but treat yourself with love and respect. If you have a detox headache and you want to go take a nap -do it! Your body will detox and then you will start to feel amazing in a way you haven’t, maybe since you can remember!

4. Reset the mind

Doing a cleanse is a great way to get back on speaking terms with your body. Focusing on taking care of, and loving, your body is the best way to refocus your mind on what really matters. As your body detoxes your mind becomes clearer. The brain fog dissipates and you can actually think again. Those big overwhelming parts of life come into focus and you start to see what’s really important.

This is also the perfect time to get your relaxation on! Take a bath, read a good book, do some chill out yoga, practice Tai Chi, take a nap -whenever you want, journal, play with your pet, zone out, stare out the window, listen to the birds, sing -loudly, dance -where ever, get a massage, give yourself a massage, light a candle and listen to a record, create a new recipe, discover a new food or juice, OMG I could keep going! But you get the idea. This is your chance to say to all the people demanding your time and attention year round that for the next X amount of days your busy, leave a message after the beep!

5. Tradition

Worldwide every culture, tribe, religion, group has some form of detoxing built into their lives. Maybe it’s Ramadan or Lent, maybe it’s the bath houses of Asian and European cultures -the heavy detoxing that comes from sitting in a hot spring for a day is amazing! All cultures detoxed way before we polluted the air and depleted the soil. So if they thought it was important then it’s absolutely ESSENTIAL now!
